With over a thousand undergraduate students and 51 faculty members, the School of Media and Design offers four major degree programs – Journalism, Advertising, Art Design, and Industrial Design. The Industrial Design major is recognized as one of the Key Majors in the city of Ningbo.
Our mission is to be a cradle of creativity for talented students of journalism, advertising, design, film, and animation. Our vision can be summarized as “emphasizing creativity in media and design to create a more vital society, instill positive values, and to express the aesthetics and soul of our nation.”
The School’s faculty is comprised of distinguished professors and dedicated teaching teams, among whom are 7 professors, 5 associate professors, 7 doctors and 1 doctoral candidate, as well as two PhD mentors and two master mentors.
Our faculty members offer diverse perspectives and educational backgrounds. Several are prominent in local research circles for their insightful and enriching studies of media, Internet culture, and the creative industry.
To support our excellent faculty and students, seven research centers have been established, including the Center for Journalism and Communication Research, the Center for Advertising and Creative Industry Research, and the Center for Media Research.
To support teaching and research in our four degree programs, the School of Media and Design has six well-equipped laboratories dedicated to the subjects of radio and TV technology, newspaper editing and production, graphic advertising and design, film and animation, sculpture art, and industrial design.
The School of Media and Design sponsors two popular student activities each summer – the Walking Journalist program and Advertising Plan A. Designed specifically for Journalism majors, the Walking Journalist program has been carried out each year since 2007, with almost 1000 students participating so far. Walking Journalist has attracted the attention of local media and government, and six scholarly publications have resulted from program activities.
Students also take initiative to participate in major-related competitions, and have achieved stellar results. In the recent Multi-media Design Competition for Undergraduates of Zhejiang Province, our students were awarded 29 prizes, including the First Prize. In the Red Dot Design Award 2011, a top international industrial design competition, our students were invited to attend the awards ceremony in Singapore for their outstanding performance.
The School of Media and Design actively promotes activities involving international exchange. Seven members of our faculty have served as visiting scholars at various institutions outside China, and several teachers have studied overseas. We also regularly invite renowned scholars from Italy, Canada, Japan, England, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other countries to visit our School.
